Today we chatted with Sherry, Assistant Controller at Spring Living Retirement Communicates to learn about her unique role and how she and her team collaborate with other teams to ensure to the company is operating and delivering the best product to market. Talk to us about your role and your team. What are you responsible for and how do you collaborate with other teams? What do you enjoy most about your role?
An Assistant Controller is responsible for providing monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting and analyses. In addition, examining and analyzing accounting and financial records, documents, and systems to ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting standards, procedures, and internal control. Another important part of my job is providing leadership, training, and development of the finance team.
Collaboration drives success and creates a platform of exchanging ideas and creativities of the team members. For our finance team, it involves regularly sharing vital information and financial data support to our retirement operating sites.
It is such an honour to work at Spring Living because it is providing flexible lifestyle options for Canadian Seniors in safe, secure, and inviting residences and it provides services that meet the evolving needs of seniors. I love my job because I know how it impacts operations and helps Spring Living provide high quality services with affordable prices for the seniors in our society. Overall, finance team works to enhance efficiency, minimize waste, and improve the overall financial health of our organization.
Can you share a memorable achievement or project?
The finance team’s mission is to empower Spring Living management to make informed decisions that can spur growth, profitability, and long-term success by delivering precise financial data and insights. It’s amazing to see how Spring living is growing as it reflects the achievement of the finance and operations teams – this year especially since we are acquiring and adding more retirement communities under Spring Living umbrella.
What are you most excited to work on in the coming months?
The finance team will work on closing the year and getting ready for the annual financial audit review as well. We all work towards being a part of a successful organization by delivering transparency and accountability to all of our stakeholders, including both investors and community members.
