Today we chatted with Paul, Project Manager at Marlin Spring Developments to learn about his unique role and how he and his team collaborate with other teams to ensure to the company is building and delivering the best product to market. Read the interview below to get to know Laura and learn more about her achievements and aspirations.
Talk to us about your role and your team. What are you responsible for and how do you collaborate with other teams? What do you enjoy most about your role?
My role at Marlin Spring Developments is Project Manager for our low-rise sites. Responsibilities include coordinating working drawings with consultants, pricing and budgeting each project, issuing contracts and assisting the site supervisors with day-to-day issues.
Collaboration with other teams is crucial in order to be successful. Our development team, accounting team, site team and numerous consultants all play an integral part in the home building process and it's my job to align construction with the needs and requirements of each department or consultant.
The most enjoyable aspect of being a project manager is witnessing our sites take shape from an empty plot of land to a sprawling community filled with new families. Being part of the process of building new homes brings a great sense of achievement and camaraderie to our team.
Can you share a memorable achievement or project?
A couple come to mind. The first being the completion of a 2nd term as a lecturer for our BAZ University program, speaking on behalf of the low-rise construction team to introduce and educate fellow co-workers on all the different facets of building homes, scheduling, budgeting and obtaining building permits. Having a basic understanding of the homes we live in and the work our co-workers do can be very useful and may make our jobs and lives easier.
Secondly, the completion of our Symphony Towns and Archetto Towns communities marked a significant milestone for me as we were able to deliver 303 townhomes to our purchasers after years of collaboration between our teams, the City and our consultants. Every time I drive by the sites I can see a tangible result of the hard work everyone put in.
What are you most excited to work on in the coming months?
Finalizing permits for a new phase of townhomes in Richmond Hill at our Ivylea site as well as continuing to work towards a completed set of permit ready construction drawings for our Willows site in Courtice. Courtice is an exciting project since it will incorporate detached and semi-detached homes which come with a new set of challenges that I look forward to. In addition, seeing the Ivylea site come together as we approach completion and have homeowners move in has been encouraging and keeps us motivated.
